TPCA urges Taiwan government to upgrade PCB industry

The Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (TPCA) has presented a white paper calling for the government to lead Taiwan's PCB industry to develop next-generation products and to promote industry upgrades. While PCB makers in China and Korea have emerged as major suppliers recently, Taiwan's PCB industry has lost its growth momentum, and is likely to post a CAGR of 1.2% during the period from 2010-2014, TPCA noted. The production value of PCB products rolled out by Taiwan-based PCB makers in Taiwan and China will total NT$550 billion (US$18.34 billion) in 2014, according to IEK. Including PCB manufacturing equipment and PCB materials, the production value of Taiwan's PCB industry will amount to NT$800 billion in the year, IEK added. By 2020, Taiwan's PCB industry, including manufacturing equipment and materials, is expected to generate total revenue of NT$988.3 billion, representing a CAGR of only 2-3%, IEK noted. Through the development of next-generation products and integration of upstream and downstream industries, Taiwan's PCB industry should aim to reach a CAGR of 6-7% from 2014-2020 and a production value of NT$1.15 trillion by 2020, TPCA urged.
